At BWC, we love sliders (also known as slideshows). They have come a long way since the introduction of mobile devices. Now well coded sliders can work very well on smart phones and tablets alike.
There are several elements to consider before adding a slider to your website:
1) Its location: Where do want to place it? Where should you be placing it? Homepage? Sub pages?
2) Its goal: What are you trying to accomplish with this new slider? Call-to-action or not? Create a feeling? Impress prospective clients? Sell products? Convey a specific message?
3) Combination of elements: Images only, images with videos, image and text combination …
4) Transition styles: Slides fading in and out, breaking into pieces, sliding (do you want to slide back to the beginning or stop) … There are many options to consider.
5) Speed of the slide transition: Typically you would want a faster pace for a younger audience and a slower transition between the different slides for a more mature target audience.
6) Design and styling:
Full with or defined width
Thumbnails or no thumbnails
Numbers or no numbers
Clickable or not, ghost buttons …
Giving control to visitors or not: play, pause, forward …
Etc…
