First there was a compatibility issues with all major browsers (reacting differently to the code), mobile device issue (since compressing such a large image would greatly slow down the website on a smart phone or tablet) and an Internet speed issue (as large images typically are very large files).

Thanks to HTML5 and CSS3, web designers are now able to design cool and powerful homepages by using one or multiple full-screen images. This look can have a great visual impact on the visitor and convey a strong message.

We hear it all before “A picture is worth a thousand words” and this is true too in website design. As the Internet progresses and people’s life get even busier (who knew this was possible!), web searchers read less and less. They want images and few words.

Of course, this is not a style we would recommend to every company and industry. Having a website that is “too pretty” is not necessarily a good option for corporate type sites who are trying to convey a “white collar” message. Also if you have a lot that needs to be said on a homepage, then having a large image taking all of the “website real estate” is not a good design option for you.

An experienced web master should discuss with you the pros and cos of having a full-width image homepage style versus a more standard design. Just because you love purple that does not mean your website should be different shades of lavender colors. If you are interested in such a design, our team would be happy to speak with you. Our consultations are always complimentary with no strings attached.

Website trend using full width images

It was not long ago that having a full-width high resolution image on a homepage was quite a coding challenge.
