Everyone was doing it. Many companies were doing it and didn’t even understand why they were doing it. Then things died down for a while. A lot of those companies realized that they didn’t know why they were blogging, and couldn’t recognize any measurable benefits, so they stopped.

Very recently, with Google’s switch over to the Hummingbird algorithm, blogs have made a huge resurgence. Google’s Hummingbird was designed to go after blocks of useful content instead of key words. It was designed to recognize when a website is growing organically. What could businesses be doing that would fill both of those SEO goals, to add blocks of useful content on a regular basis to show site growth? The answer is blogging. Blogs are the answer to a few of the largest needs when it comes to search engine optimization. So the biggest point in favor of having a blog is that over time it continuously increases your ranking on Google, as long as you keep it up.

Point number two is that you are establishing your company as an expert in its field by actually providing useful information. If your company specializes in auto repair, and you provide several simple tips on how to repair something or other, giving away the secret isn’t really going to cut into your business, because in all likelihood, your viewers aren’t going to want to bother trying to repair it themselves and more than likely won’t have the correct tools anyway. But the viewer, seeing that you know exactly what the steps for repair are, will have built some trust. More trust than your competitors that don’t display any knowledge of expertise on their site. Even better, you would have a video blog where you actually show the process of repair. Then the potential customer gets attached to a name and a face and wants to go see that exact person. That is really good at building trust. Trust in the end, is the best thing that can develop between your company and your customers. If a customer trusts you, they will buy what you are selling, regardless of whether you are at a slightly higher price than your competition or not.

These are the two major benefits of having a blog, but you really don’t need more than that. SEO is usually a big enough thing to try to tackle that having a very straightforward plan, such as blogging, can be a lifesaver. If you have a website, which you should, than you need to always be doing something to help increase your SEO value, even if you’re on top. Blogging is an easy way to do that. Once blogs have brought customers to your site, they also play a great part in converting them if you’ve done it right. Don’t miss out.

Blogging exploded in the early 2000’s. Everyone was doing it.
